SafeCrete for Small Projects

This photo shows a small SafeCrete house under construction. The foundation has been laid, followed by one course of SafeCrete block. The slab was poured inside the first course, in order to insulate the slab and benefit from its thermal mass. Notice the rebar protruding through the cored block at corners and beside openings. The rebar ties the foundation to the roof, and these cores will be filled with concrete grout when the horizontal bond beam is poured at the top course.

At SafeCrete, our vision has always been to make this remarkable building product available to the general public. We've targeted the residential market with our advertising and website, and we offer monthly training classes to teach folks how to use SafeCrete AAC products properly and efficiently.

How interesting to see the concrete poured inside the ring of Safecrete blocks. That helps with the problem of thermal loss from the slab.

What kind of a footer is the first row of safecrete set on? How much bigger would it be for a 2 story structure?

What about expansion? I presume you place an expansion material inside the blocks?

what are the height limitations for a non reinforced 4" safecrete firewall?

For interior applications, 4" thick walls may be used 11.5' feet tall maximum, with a maximum length of 12'and secured at top, bottom and both sides. This is for interior (non-load-bearing) applications.

For load-bearing interiors, use 6" SafeCrete blocks.

For load-bearing exteriors, use 8" SafeCrete blocks.

MBO, It is a good idea to put an expansion material inside the SafeCrete blocks before pouring the concrete slab.

The footing required for a SafeCrete building is the same as for a building built with typical hollow core concrete blocks.

Thanks!
Jeannie
